Clear Creak

Every few weeks, we just have to get out of town. Today, we decided to go up to Camp Verde to see what we could see.

Outside the Tourist Info office in downtown Camp Verde

We didn't have any particular destination in mind. Most times, we just go and leave the details up to chance. This time, chance took us to Clear Creak.

Hard to tell how fast the water is moving from still images.

Once again, chance comes through.

It sure is nice. We wonder where Simone went off to.
="Oh,
Simone really loves the water
Simone finally realizes the water is really cold

The trail itself is beautiful, even without the creek. There are sycamores everywhere.

Whoa, did that tree just move?

We didn't go quite as far as we would have liked to because we had a late start. We'll be back though. We're thinking that next time we will camp out the night before and then take off into the wilderness area in the morning.

Rode the Bull

Barry's company Christmas party was at Rawhide this year. He rode the bull for the first time. He bought a hat. Why does he look pregnant and with man breasts?

Greer, AZ

If you've never heard of Greer, AZ, don't feel too bad. Most people here in Phoenix that were told we were going there had never heard of it either. We found it when we googled "Dog Friendly Cabins AZ."

Out of the 3 of us, we think Simone had the best time.

We got one of the older dog-friendly cabins. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it was cozy and we liked it very much.

From Saturday afternoon, through Monday morning, we just walked and hiked around through the pine trees and the Little Colorado river. Simone showed surprising stamina for a greyhound.

Except for the little incident near Big Lake when we hit an ice patch and the car almost slid off the mountain and we all almost died, it was a great weekend.

August, 2008

Our cousin Julien came from Auray, France to visit us and to see the wild west. This was his first trip to the U.S.

We did lot of things while he was here as you can see from this small sample of photos. Most of them were taken by Julien. That's why you won't see him in the pictures very often.

Tucson
This is a shot of Old Tucson Studios. Julien and Barry went down there for the day while Cécile was working. Barry didn't really want to go but he ended up having a surprisingly good time.
If you've seen the movie Tombstone, you've seen this street.

Grand Canyon
Although the drive up to the Canyon gets a little boring after the 10th or 11th time you do it, we're always awestruck by the sight of this place.

Page
After the Grand Canyon, it was off to Page. If we had known that there was so much to do there, we would have planned to stay longer than a day.

Flagstaff
We left Page and spent the night in Flagstaff. The Hotel Monte Vista was kind of a special place for us but we don't think we're ever going to stay there again.

The Storm
There was a huge monsoon storm Thursday night with lightning and thunder and hail. We watched it from the street before it reached downtown Phoenix (that's what we do for fun in Phoenix). It was pretty intense.

BAM!

Puerto Peñasco
After all that driving, we thought we needed a little relaxation time so, of course, we got back into the car. This time, we headed south to Rocky Point for a 3-night weekend. We returned on Labor Day and it took an hour and 50 minutes to get back across the border. Totally worth it, though.
